An EPD steel fence should be assessed as a complete product: substrate, panel construction, surface preparation, electrocoat, exterior finish and installation components. Similar-looking black fence panels may use different materials and coating systems.

For paint-finished steel fencing, EPD refers to electrophoretic deposition—the process commonly described as electrocoating or E-Coating. “Electrophoresis steel fence” is a search expression; electrophoretically coated steel fence is a more precise product description.

Specify the coating as a complete system
Start with the substrate
Identify the steel and any metallic zinc protection. These are separate from the organic paint layers applied later.
Define the E-Coat
Specify compatible pretreatment and electrocoat materials. Part geometry, coating access and drainage affect the outcome.
Confirm the topcoat
Where required, agree an exterior powder finish that is compatible with the base coat and the intended environment.
If a project calls for PPG E-Coat, name the requested material in the enquiry. Confirm availability, product grade and compatibility before approval. A coating brand alone does not establish a fence’s test rating, certification or service life.
Prepare the order beyond the panel
Review the site layout
Mark corners, slopes, changes of level and gate openings. Agree how panels meet posts and existing walls. Structural supports and foundations should be assessed for the actual site conditions.
Coordinate the entrance
Browse the steel gate range and discuss the required opening and operating space. Confirm the gate’s finish separately rather than assuming it shares the panel’s coating system.

No. The public information ranges from product-specific E-Coat descriptions to company-level finishing capabilities. Ask each supplier to identify the process used on the particular fence you are ordering.

Is EPD coating the same as galvanizing?
