How to Specify Picket Spacing
Clear spacing is the open distance between adjacent picket faces. Center-to-center spacing includes the width of a picket and should not be used interchangeably with the clear opening.
For square pickets with a 19 mm face width, a proposed 40 mm clear opening would produce a 59 mm center-to-center pitch. This is a calculation example, not a confirmed Wonderful Metal product specification. The final picket count also depends on panel width, end gaps and connections.
- State the maximum clear opening required for the intended application.
- Define edge openings between the first or last picket and the post or frame.
- Check that gate infill follows the same visual spacing.
- Review the largest opening after any permitted slope adjustment.
